Lease Offers / Mercedes-Benz Car Information Mercedes-Benz's R-Class sports-utility vehicle/people carrier is as close to an executive jet on wheels as you'll find in any showroom. Sure, there are other vehicles that might pamper you more, but in terms of interior layout and comfort, the three-row, six or seven-seat R-Class is a Learjet without wings. The roomy interior comes standard with three rows of dual captain's chairs (though the third row of seats has no walk space like the second row has). Newly optional at $650 for 2008 is a seventh seat that makes the middle row a three-seat place. A wood-covered center console is optional on six-seat models for $410. It features cupholders and a padded storage armrest. Available in R320 CDI diesel and R350 gasoline variants, the R-Class is pared down by two models from 2007 with the deletion of the top-range R63 AMG and the V8 R500. All variants now feature a standard AMG-badged bodykit and 18' wheels, which makes the R320 CDI the only diesel-engined Mercedes-Benz to feature AMG equipment. The R320 CDI features standard all-wheel-drive and Mercedes' 3.0 liter V6 turbodiesel engine, which puts out 215 horsepower and 298 lb-ft. of torque and uses a seven-speed automatic transmission. In an attempt to drum up sagging sales, the R350 is available in both all and two-wheel drive for 2008; previous model years had featured standard all-wheel drive. The R350 features Mercedes' obligatory 3.5-liter V6 engine, which pumps out 268 horsepower and 258 lb-ft. of torque through the same seven-speed automatic transmission. Both models include Mercedes' MBTex vinyl upholstery, power driver's seat, rain-sensing wipers, wood trim and stability control. A Premium I package includes Parktronic reverse sensing, Tele Aid, a hands-free communication system, harman/kardon audio and a large glass panorama roof, among other features. The Premium II package upgrades the I package with DVD-based navigation, a rearview camera, auto dimming mirrors, power, memory seats, folding mirrors and steering wheel. For the true hedonist, the Premium III package adds a three-zone automatic climate control and infrared reflecting exterior glass. Heated seats and steering wheel, extended leather upholstery, 19' wheels, rear seat entertainment system and Distronic adaptive cruise control are among other major options for the R-Class. |
